threat to kill state senator leland yee. first, though, we head to santa clara and the search of the suspect's home. ktvu's robert handa is there. what did they find today? >> reporter: well, the long painstaking search continues at this house today and even though details are coming out clowely, law enforcement -- slowly, law enforcement is finding dangerous material inside, including bombs ready to be used. >> reporter: bomb squad is examining the materials inside this home in santa clara. items are being tested before being removed. the bomb squad used this trailer to transport five devices away from the area where they were blown up, similar to tuesday night, captured on this surveillance video. today's devices were not just

live, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. >> search comes after he sent an e-mail to state senator leland yee threatening to kill him. today leland yee talked about the e-mail and what else it said. ktvu's rob roth is here with that part of the story. >> reporter: state senator leland yee says he got his share of hate mail in the past but nothing like the one he received last year. >> reporter: state senator leland yee said the e-mail came four weeks ago. he immediately turned it over to the california highway patrol to investigate because contained in the e-mail was a death threat. >> if i did not cease efforts to deal with gun violence he would assassinate me in or around the capital. >> the author of the e-mail was angry about leland yee's legislation that would ban devices that allow for rapid

reloading of assault weapons and require assault weapons to have a 10 round limit. >> he stated he was a trained sniper and his e-mail detailed certain weapons that he possessioned and how he would kill me. >> the chp wouldn't disclose how they were able to trace the e-mail to everett basham. but they say inside his car they confiscated a loaded gun and inside his home in santa clara they found districtive devices and harmful chemicals. >> there is material that is classified as explosive, there are materials that are prohibited and criminal to possession. they are not household products. >> reporter: leland yee said he plans to move forward with the legislation tackling gun violence. >> this case is a troubling one and only further demonstrates the need to address this

about what happened. magistrate dismissed a lawsuit that is trying trying to lock the obama administration from taking over the property rented by the harborside health sister. they filed procedures in october against harborside landlord on the grounds of selling marijuana violated federal law. the city claims they operated within laws. the judge found oakland had no standing in the case. the trial could start in a few months. the man accused of plotting to blow up a bank was in court today. matthew llaneza is charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. he was in court today for a bail hearing. he was granted a continuous for next month. matthew llaneza was arrested friday as part of a 20 month long -- 2 month long fbi sting.

he tried to detonate a fake car bomb outside of a bank of america branch. >> authorities announced they have identified the remains of chris dorner. identification was made through dental records. the sheriff's department spokeswoman didn't give a cause of death. chris dorner's remains were found inside a cabin which burned to the ground after s.w.a.t. teams tossed tear gas in. he is believed to have killed two people, including two law enforcement officers. the man who made history as a first double amputee in the olympic games is under arrest accused of murdering his girlfriend. oscar pistorius was arrested this morning at his home after his girlfriend reeva steenkamp was found shot to death inside. she was a model who was about to debut on a reality tv show.

police say she stole a package and a bag from a porch. someone was caught on this surveillance video. police put this video on youtube and several tips from the public led to the arrest. former san diego mayor today admitted she gambled millions of dollars intended for charity. she acknowledged today she misappropriated $2 million from her husband's chartable foundation. prosecutors say she won more than a billion dollars gambling but she lost even more than that. she made the admission as part of an agreement to defer the case for two years while she tries to repay the charity. the seeled hearing regarding the case. redacted transcripts of hearings that took place in

december and january will be made public. she was an intern in washington d.c., and was killed in 2001. in 2010 an illegal immigrants was convict offend her murder. the hearings could signal a problem with the prosecution. . bay area dmz workers are being credited with breaking opgroup -- breaking up a group carrying out a scheme. they have all now been arrested. the dmv workers spotted the crew in 2010. members of the group continuously submitted paper work that didn't belong to them. they would offer their services for a fee. they would then pay the dmv with a bad personal check. it was carried out several

more now on breaking news from san jose. we are learning that two people have been killed in san jose, not far from a high school. you can see there is a large police presence there and they roped off one home in the neighborhood. here is what we know. one male and one female were killed. the call came in at 4:45 p.m. we are working to get more

they discussed the plan today to raise fairs 5.2% next year and increase them every two years through 2020 with the amount being tied to inflation. the board did not take any action on the plan today however it could come up in two weeks. chrysler is expanding aeral to fix a axle problem that caused 15 accidents. a rear axle could loosing. the current recall applies to rams from 2009 to 2012, dodge 2009 to 2011 and 2009 dodge full size suv and the 2009 chrysler aspen. the accidents did not cause any injuries. regulators are launching a crack down on unsafe tour buses. the administration said today teams of investigators will look at companies with a

history of problems. 8 people were killed when a bus crashed in san bernardino earlier this month. the company behind the oil still in the gulf of mexico three years ago pleaded guilty today to criminal charges. they admitted to illegal conduct leading up to the oil spill disaster. an explosion in april of 2010 killed 11 people and sent 205 million gallons of oil into the gulf of mexico. the company was sentenced to pay $400 million in fines and penalties. bay area home prices increased in january for the 10 10th straight month. they released the numbers today. the meanian price was $415,000 and that is up 27% more from last year. 5500 homes were sold last month
